BMW unveils new generation iX3 electric crossover to compete with Tesla

The new BMW iX3 electric car will be the debut model in the Neue Klasse line, equipped with innovative technologies, including an 800 V battery, support for ultra-fast charging with a capacity of up to 400 kW and an advanced digital platform. According to the head of the company, Oliver Zipse, the electric car’s range will be up to 800 km according to the WLTP standard, which significantly exceeds the Tesla Model Y Long Range (622 km). Fast charging technology allows you to get enough energy in just 10 minutes to travel from New York to Washington.

The key features of the iX3 are new cylindrical batteries with an efficiency 20% higher than analogues and a next-generation digital control system, dubbed the “superbrain”. Its performance is 20 times greater than the capabilities of current BMW systems, and the development was carried out by an international team of engineers from Portugal, South Africa, China, India, Romania and the USA. The model will enter serial production in 2026, and the company hopes that its combination of advanced technology, high energy efficiency and premium status will bring back buyers who prefer Tesla. As Zipse noted, BMW creates cars “that you can be proud of without having to justify them.”
